Two of the verdicts were in medical malpractice cases and one was in a nursing home abuse and neglect case. All of these trials lasted one to two weeks. He also continues to represent defendants and has tried multiple cases to defense verdicts. Major defense verdicts include three defense verdicts in life insurance sales practice cases in the circuit courts of Jasper County, Union County and Hinds County. The most recent of these verdicts was in February 2008 while representing a large life insurance company in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi. The plaintiff sought over $5 million in actual damages. Philip’s trial wins include separate cases tried against two former presidents of the Mississippi Bar and leading medical malpractice and nursing home attorneys from Mississippi and the nation.
Philip has also presented and observed deliberations of mock juries in many focus group studies. The studies were conducted by leading trial consulting and research firms and in association with prominent attorneys such as famed trial lawyer Mark Lanier. These studies provide valuable insight into persuasion techniques and the mindset of jurors.
